You can use a standard shot glass to measure this amount if you have difficulty gauging what an ounce looks like. If you don't like the heavy feel of sunscreen on your skin, look for lighter formulas that are made to feel dry to the touch.

2. Skip the makeup.

If you normally wear makeup, you should consider skipping it during your beach outing. Experts recommend that you reapply sunscreen throughout the day, either every two hours or after you jump in the water, whichever comes first. Makeup will discourage you from reapplying sunscreen to your face, which can lead to painful sunburns.

3. Cover up.
